Founded in 2007 under the vision of Padmashri Dr Karsanbhai K Patel, the Institute of Law at Nirma University, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, it offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in Law, Humanities and Social Science, Accounting, and Commerce. The institute emphasizes justice education, excellence, and professionalism, nurturing lawyers, leaders, and policymakers. Its offerings include BA LLB (Hons) and BCom LLB (Hons) integrated courses, LLM in Constitutional and Administrative Law and Criminal and Security Law specializations, and PhD programs in Constitutional Law, Human Rights Law, and Criminal Law.

What is the status of the Institute?

The Institute of Law is a Constituent Institution of Nirma University, established by a special Act passed by the Gujarat State Assembly. Nirma University is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) of the UGC Act and accredited by NAAC with Grade ‘A+’.

Does the Institute provide scholarships?

Yes, the Institute provides scholarships under two categories: Merit-based and merit-cum-means based. Further details are available on our website under the Scholarship section.

What are the admission categories and seat percentage in the Institute of Law, Nirma University?

There are three categories for admission:

  • General Category: 85% of total intake (255 seats)

  • NRI/(or NRI Sponsored) Category: 15% of total intake (45 seats)

  • FN/PIO/CIWGC-SEA Category (Supernumerary Seats): 15% (45 seats)

What is the admission procedure for getting admission in the Institute of Law, Nirma University?

  • Admission to the Five-Year Integrated Programmes for the same academic year is based on the All India merit rank of CLAT.

  • Candidates must appear in the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) and fill in the application form of the Institute of Law, Nirma University, in addition to the CLAT form.

  • Admission under NRI/NRI Sponsored Category will be considered based on CLAT score, while for Genuine NRI/FN/PIO/CIWGC-SEA categories, no qualifying exam is required, but preference is given to CLAT.
